What is SAP?
The Islamic College of Melbourne’s Secondary Accelerated Program (SAP) caters for the unique educational needs of high ability students. SAP operates on the principles of acceleration, extension, and enrichment.
There is a greater emphasis on higher order thinking & learning skills, independent learning and research. Enrichment is provided by broadening content, understanding, experience and skills to a level appropriate to the students’ stage of development. SAP offers high achieving students the opportunity to extend and enrich their learning with like-minded peers and provides participants with challenging and engaging course material in English, Maths, Humanities and Science.
SAP offers students the opportunity to:
• Fulfil their academic and social potential in a like ability setting.
• Engage in a curriculum that is varied, complex and develops higher order thinking skills.
• Work with like-minded peers in a collaborative, investigative and problem-solving based environment.
Pathway for SAP Students
Our Secondary Accelerated Program is designed so that when SAP students reach Year 10, they are in a position to access early VCE and mainstream extension subjects that are designed to feed into the VCE and IB Diploma programme. This means that SAP students will have already been exposed to and practiced many of the skills that these subjects require.
SAP students will be in a position to excel academically in their senior years at ICOM, no matter which programme they chose to take on.
Leadership Opportunities
As part of our Secondary Accelerated Program students will be exposed to a number of leadership opportunities.
They will partake in seminars & excursions where they will learn about and experience the qualities that leaders have. This will prepare and enable them to access many of the leadership opportunities at ICOM.
Student Selection
All students who partake in our Secondary Accelerated Program will be externally assessed through the EduTest Program. More information on EduTest can be found on the EduTest website EduTest.com.au.
It is expected that potential students attain an average of 80% in subject areas. All prospective students will attend an interview with the SAP coordinator prior to a letter of offer being made.
